Regionale industrialisering in vergelijkend perspectief

De afgelopen twee eeuwen industrialiseerden regio’s in Europa en Azië op zeer verschillende wijzen. Een recent verschenen boek belicht de overeenkomsten en verschillen in industrialisatieprocessen in België, Nederland, Italië, Joegoslavië, China en Japan. Aandacht wordt onder meer besteed aan de gevolgen van het industriebeleid, agglomeratiekrachten, globalisering en de determinanten van industriële locatie in de tijd.

Het boek verscheen onder de redactie van Bas van Leeuwen (IISG), Robin Philips (IISG en alumnus geschiedenis van de UGent) en Erik Buyst (KULeuven). Het bevat casestudies en andere bijdragen van een internationaal team van onderzoekers met deelname van de UGent (door Glenn Raypp en Stijn Ronsse, vakgroep Economie).

Het onderzoek over België steunt op LOKSTAT-data afkomstig uit de nijverheids- en volkstellingen, alsook contextuele data over de ontwikkeling van de verkeersinfrastructuur.

Abstract:

This book offers a comprehensive study of regional industrialization in Europe and Asia from the early nineteenth century to the present. Using case studies on regional industrialization, the book provides insights into similarities and differences in industrialization processes between European, Eurasian and Asian countries. Important factors include the transition from traditional to modern industrial production, industrial policy, agglomeration forces, market integration, and the determinants of industrial location over time. The book is an invaluable reference that attempts to bridge the fields of economic history, political history, economic geography, and economics while contributing to the debates on economic divergence between Europe and Asia as well as on the role of economic integration and globalization.
